It’s already 4 years that Azerbaijan takes part on Eurovision song contest and has a chance to show its culture, music and traditions to the world. It was 2008 when Azerbaijan participated in Eurovision song contest side by side with huge European countries. Our country was represented by young singers: Samir Javadzadeh & Elnur Huseynov. They showed a great performance with the song “Day after day” which became very popular in all European countries in very short time. The main idea of the song was struggle between angel and demon, based on ancient beliefs. As our ancestry believed in the power of light and its triumph, our representatives showed it in this performance. And the victory of angel at the end is main idea of Azeri people to gain victory in every step. Authors of the song were Zahra Badalbeyli and Govher Hasanzadeh. The main part of the song consisted of Azerbaijani traditional music-mugham, that fascinated all Europe. Azerbaijan took 8th place and it was very big achievement for us. It inspired us to gain victory in every sphere.
In the 2nd year (2009) Azerbaijan was represented by Arash&Aysel with the song “Always”. This duet was also the performance of Southern and Northern-Great Azerbaijan. The authors of the song were Arash Labaf, Robert Uhlmann, Johan Bejerholm, Marcus Englof, Alex Papaconstantinou, Elin Wrethov, Anderz Wrethov. As in the previous contest this performance had also national element-the sound of national musical string instrument tar. Of course, the best music, the best performance, the best singers led to the 3rd place.
In the 3rd year (2010) Azerbaijan was represented by the youngest singer of our country- Safura Alizadeh. And Europe was a witness of the beauty of Azerbaijani girls for the second time. The “Drip-Drop” song’s authors were Anders Bagge, Stefan Orn və Sandra Bjurman. With this performance Safura showed that Azerbaijani youth is also very talented and in spite of being young a person can realize the desire of her country even on the big stages. She took the 5th place, though the competition was very great.
And the peak of our victory- Ell&Nikki’s great performance! At last our country gained the place that he deserved. The song “Running scared” has become the best song of Europe. The authors were Stefan Örn, Sandra Bjurman və İen Farguhanson. With this song Eldar and Nigar represented not only their motherland, but also all Turkish world. It was the victory of both Azerbaijan and Turkish world. It was so romantic, gentle and intelligent performance. They showed their love with the flags of Azerbaijan and Turkey on their hands. Azerbaijani people were so happy that in that very night all streets were full of cheerful people. Side by side with Azerbaijanese there were representatives of different nationalities.
Azerbaijan has been waiting for this victory for a long time. Finally this victory has gained. This victory made happy our friends, but at the same time upset our enemies. Never mind, it is not the last victory. This victory showed the unity of whole nation. Our best desire is to show this unity in the day of our victory in Karabakh. This day is not so far…
